AMBRA

Enveloping Spicy Amber
I imagine you thought amber was a stone, a solid resin, from which you extract a fragrance. Not at all! While amber is indeed a fossilised resin, this beautiful golden yellow stone has no scent. It is simply used to make necklaces, bracelets, cane tops — sometimes containing bugs that inspire horror films and scare my little girl to tears. The amber used by perfumers is a combination of two materials: vanilla and labdanum, a different resin. The inventor of this feminine- masculine duo remains a mystery, but he or she laid the foundations for what are known as the Oriental fragrances.
Here I play on this theme, this magical combination, adding little hints of important or rare ingredients, like Mediterranean strawflower, tonka and, of course, bergamot, a fruit from Calabria.

Heart note: Absolute of Immortelle, French Corsica
Base notes: Ciste-Labdanum essence, Spain & Vanilla.

After occupying a position as the exclusive, in-house perfumer at Hermès, he is now the Olfactive Creation Director at Le Couvent Maison de Parfum.
